Created in the mid 1970s
as a Presbyterian outreach mission, CROSS Ministries quickly became a pillar of hope for at-risk people facing the threat of losing housing or utility services. Over the years CROSS has expanded services providing more than 21,000 acts of service annually.

Our mission:
  • To prevent homelessness and to provide financial assistance, food, and other basic survival needs to people in need.
  • To advocate for changing social, economic and political systems which perpetuate poverty and oppression.
  • To create a vision of justice and provide educational opportunities to churches, organizations, and the community concerning the plight of the poor.

Our Leadership Team:

Roberta Victor, Ph.D., ATR-BC
CROSS Executive Director

Roberta provides direct services to low and no income people, Chairs the Polk County Housing Continuum Service Council, the Social Services Networking Group and offers creative presentations, workshops, and worship services. Roberta has been working with CROSS since 1991, has been the Ex. Director since 2005, and is approved for pulpit supply through the Presbytery of Des Moines.

David Moore
Food Pantry Director

David is a graduate of the University of Northern Iowa. He provides intake for the food pantry clients and oversees the general day-to-day operations of the food pantry. He has been involved with CROSS Ministries outreach programs in one capacity or another for seven years.

Joyce Hoffman
Volunteer Coordinator
Volunteers are the foundation of our organization, providing thousands of hours of dedicated labor each year. Joyce coordinates volunteers to work in the food pantry, for special events, and for the Annual Back to School Giveaway. We are grateful for Joyce and her awesome phone filled with the names of dedicated volunteers. Every organization needs someone like Joyce!
